London Film Festival
Oct 9, 2011

Now in its 55th year, the London Film Festival, presented by the British Film Institute (BFI), is the largest film event in the UK. It presents "the finest contemporary international cinema from both established and emerging film-makers" by showcasing more than 300 features and shorts from more than 50 countries. It is a "premiere" festival, and demands, at minimum, to be the first UK screening for every new film. Summer Snapshot is proud to make its UK debut at London BFI.
Sapporo International Film Festival
Oct 5, 2011

We don't know what is a bigger honor: screening along-side an Academy Award winning short, or one by Gus Van Sant, or one by Chel White with narration by Alec Baldwin, or one by Matt McCormick with narratin by Miranda July, or one of the coolest music videos by one of the coolest bands of all time, the Talking Heads. All of the above?

Summer Snapshot screens as part of the Sapporo International Film Festival & Market in Japan as part of the "Made in Portland" program, curated by the NW Film Center.
Adventure Film Festival
Oct 3, 2011

The Adventure Film Festival celebrates all aspects of adventure, from "serious exploration to environmental heroism to gripping tales from the edges of the believable." We're glad they saw in Summer Snapshot a story of adventure, or perhaps the spirit of adventure, comraderie, and lifelong memories.
Port Townsend Film Festival
Sep 8, 2011

When the Pacific Northwest does 'quaint,' it looks like Port Townsend. A historic little town tucked inside Puget Sound and nestled up against the base of the Olympic Mountains, it's world-famous for wodden boats, shipwrites, and sail makers. And, more recently, a gem of a film festival.
Globians Doc Fest
Aug 14, 2011

We were happy to have Summer Snapshot screen in this year's Globians Doc Fest in Berlin, Germany. Globians Doc Fest likes to see "strong individual voices in film making who know what they are doing, when less effect filters are more to the substance of a work." They "strongly believe in independence when 'independent' is not just a label" and they "like 'mavericks' in film making very much." We like you, too, Globians!

Portugal's premier festival of short films, Curtas Vila do Conde 2011, released its International Selection: "A selection of films - divided between fiction, documentary and animation - that represent the best of last year's short film production, proving that the great contemporary cinema also is in the short format." Summer Snapshot is humbled and proud to be one of the 6 films selected from the US, along with filmmakers Spike Jonze, Harmony Korine, Thom Andersen, and Topaz Adizes.
Maui Film Festival
Jun 15, 2011

We've always wanted to be part of the Maui film festival, a four-day celebration of films that takes place in the lovely Aloha state. Films not only screen at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's 700 seat Castle Theater, but also at the "Celestial Cinema," a giant screen temporarily set up on a golf course overlooking the Pacific Ocean, where several hundred gather under the moonlight with folding chairs and picnic blankets. How cool is that?
Norwegian Short Film Fest
Jun 5, 2011

The Norwegian Short Film Festival began as a young and radical counterculture to the Norwegian film industry and a monopolistic Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). Today, 33 years later, it has become "one of the pillars in Norwegian film life where everyone with an interest in the future of Norwegian film gets involved in one way or another."

It's fitting that such a festival started in 1978 has picked Summer Snapshot (cast in the spirit of the late '70s.) We are very honored to be part of the festival. We didn't even apply; films are by invitation only.

We couldn't be more pleased than to have gotten an invitation out of the blue to DOCVILLE. This Belgium festival focuses on "author’s cinema – a personal approach – and cinematography." The festival travelled around the world looking for the best new films and watched over a thousand submissions to distill what they consider to be the "best documentaries of the moment." Or, as they describe: "Films that surprise us, move us, that stick with us and that deserve to be shown on the silver screen."

Being selected for Docville is high praise indeed.

We're proud to be selected for the George Eastman House film festival, the birthplace of Kodak. George Eastman was a major innovator of the 20th Century, changing photography for everyone. He gave large sums of Kodak's profits to his employees, children's hospitals, and universities, including African American colleges. Today, Kodak supports student filmmakers, and donated 50% of the film used in Summer Snapshot. We're proud to be a small part of the Eastman legacy.
Apr 8, 2011

There are a select few film festivals that can be said by name and people nod and say, "Oh wow." Cannes, Sundance, and Tribeca. Out of the thousands of submissions for the prestigious festival, Summer Snasphot was picked as one of sixty short films in competition for 2011. “Whether narrative, documentary, experimental or animation, these short films exhibit extraordinary talent,” said Sharon Badal, TFF head short film programmer. Ian has been invited back not only to screen Summer Snapshot but to also serve as a juror for the feature documentaries.

We're thrilled for the chance to return to Missoula, celebrate outstanding documentary films, and drink our share of Moose Drool.
